Workplace Standards Changes due to COVID-19

The recent pandemic has led to many temporary laws being passed which provide assistance in this time of crisis, particularly regarding special leave for employees impacted by COVID-19.

These laws change rapidly as more information becomes available and public health officials make new recommendations, and are different in each jurisdiction. Please consult the appropriate government sources for up-to-date information on this issue.

Minimum Wage $16.00/hour

Overtime after 8 hours/day or 40 hours/week
Max 10 hours/day, 60 hours/week, and 6 days/week
Employees receive a 30 minute break for every 5 continuous hours
4 hour call-in

Temporary Lay-Offs &
Group Terminations
Temporary lay-offs for 45 days in a period of 60 days
Termination of 25 or more employees within 4 weeks must give advance notice to the employees and to the labour standards officer based on the number of employees terminated: 4 weeks for 25 or more employees, 8 weeks for 50 or more, 12 weeks for 100 or more, and 16 weeks for 300 or more
