Terry Young, CMP
IT’S ALL ABOUT TEAMWORK

Terry Young started his career with TELUS Communications 29 years ago, just one day after graduating from high school in Wainwright Alberta, following in the footsteps of a family legacy in the industry, in which the Young family has contributed over 150 years of service.

TELUS is a national corporation whose roots originated in Alberta as Alberta Government Telephones; it has morphed into a multi billion dollar company by acquiring and merging with other companies across Canada. TELUS’ strategic intent is to “Unleash the power of the internet to people at home, at work and on the move” over their Voice, Wireless and Data Networks across Canada.

Terry started in Network Installation, traveling across the province, and has been part of a technological transformation that delivered Digital Electronics and Internet Protocol (IP) platforms at TELUS.

Upon completion of a four year Communication Technician Apprenticeship program at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, Terry moved on to the international scene as a contracted Field Technician with Nortel Canada, and enjoyed traveling throughout the USA and the UK. Terry started to develop an interest in Management and more specifically in Tactical Resource Management for the project work he was involved in.

Once Terry returned to Canada, he bid into Resource Management and began a series of Management Professional courses at TELUS. Their Leadership Now program is specifically set up for emerging leaders and their development in business training. Attending the Banff School of Management rounded out the leadership training and led to a series of career moves and promotions. Terry took his Canadian Management Professional certification with IPM in 2005 and has been an active member ever since. This spring, he joined the Edmonton Regional Executive Board of IPM Associations and truly enjoys his role as a volunteer on the team.

Terry’s current role as the Director of Customer Solutions Delivery in Alberta has him leading a team of 70 individuals that perform several roles in Outside Plant Provisioning. The team consists of Tactical Planning, Project Management, Engineering and Construction, where he has developed solid business continuity and succession plans to sustain the operation.

Terry sees his major challenge in recruiting and retaining the best people in an industry where the legacies of 35-year employees are moving on to retirement and a fresh workforce is just beginning their journey. It’s all about team work and commitment to one another that ensures the success of the team and the corporation.

Terry’s interests outside of TELUS reside in his community where he has been involved in organizations supporting sports programs for children, and fundraising events for several causes. He enjoys spending time with the family, camping, and playing baseball any chance he gets. His main focus in life is to have fun at work or at play and share in a laugh each and every day.

Lore is the mother of two: daughter Hanna, age 9 and son Shane, age 7. She is often juggling her time between several sporting and community venues for activities her children are involved in, enjoys spending time with her family and friends as well as fitting in time to continue her running.

In the future, Lore hopes to complete another marathon, continue her education in HR management and keep on developing her role in contributing to the attraction and development of extraordinary people, the foundation of what makes NSCC a great organization.
